Now that the smoke has cleared I guess it's time for me to give my real two cents about the a90 supra. Since the release of the new supra there has been tons of talk good and bad....mostly bad. After being gone for decades and building a reputation of arguably the best japanese sports car ever made, for many its return is a bit lack luster. there has been years of anticipation for this car, so now that it is finally here, I have to admit its not much of a surprise.
The styling of the a90 is 100% on point in my opinion. I know i may not be the majority in that category but this is the best looking supra every made if you ask me. The lines, the long hood short trunk, sloping roof line, its all classic sports car! Initially I was very excited with all the vents, it led me to believe that aerodynamics played a big role in the creation of the new supra. so you can imagine how a track guy like me felt to find out that all the vents are fake. I love the wheels as well. The 90s must be the golden years for oem wheels, because most cars these days the wheel options are absolutely terrible. The a90 knocked the wheels out of the park, especially in all black. They remind me much of the classic work emotion cai.
Now the real gripe....335hp. in 2019 335hp isnt knocking anyones socks off. hell a civic can be had with 300hp these days. although i expected much more i will be honest and say 365tq isnt anything to snark at. hp looks good on paper but we all know tq wins races. that said it is a bmw turbo inline six. anyone in the scene knows 100 extra hp can be had with your eyes closed on any bmw turbo six. the transmission stings as well with no available manual option. to make matters worse its not a dual clutch either.
Hate it or love it the supra will be a hit amongst tuners. i'll keep it real aside from the looks i'm not happy with what we have been given. when talk of the supra returning i expected so much more. although i may not be overly thrilled its still too early to count the supra out. once we get some real test reviews, we can all form a better opinion of a car that hasn't even been in the public eye for a month yet. the supra has always been a gt car but the a90 appears to be a much more dedicated sports car just from the dimensions alone. that gives me all the hope i need...it may not be what we expected...but it may be better than what we expected. until then keep driving your civics and 240s.
Eh I guess my frs i drive isn't much better.
